Girls on the Run 2010-2011
CVES had 15 girls, their friends, and family "running buddies" complete a challenging, hilly 5K run along West Paces Ferry in Atlanta.  Every Atlanta area GOTR club was represented; over 1500 runners in all!  This was the culmination of all their hard work and training for the last semester. The GOTR mission is to "educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living."

Check us out a Sneak Peek in August 2011!

Thursday Post for April 1

Happy Spring Break to All!
The Creek View Garden Club and the CVES Brownie Troop 3801started a butterfly garden just outside of the Outdoor Classroom! The Girl Scouts provided all kinds of supplies. The tilled the soil and discovered it was rich with worms. They built toad homes to encourage toads. It's an exciting work in progress.

CRCT testing will begin begin on April 15. It runs 5 days, Wednesday-Friday the first week and Tuesday and Wednesday of the 2nd week. Students should get plenty of rest and have a healthy breakfast. They have a 10 minute break for snack during testing. Please make sure your child arrives on time to unpack, relax and get settled in as testing will start promptly at 8AM.

More about the Butterfly Garden....
Girl Scout Troop #3801 took on the Pink and Purple Butterfly Garden project with the long-term goal to have the garden certified as a National Wildlife Habitat.  Slowly but surely we will be adding features to meet all the criteria for the certification. The Troop paid for plants out of their Girl Scout cookies - selling fund and the Greenway Service Unit promised to match the amount.
Some of the plants were donated by parents, other materials were donations from Home Depot on Windward and Lowe's at John's Creek.  The troop's 20 girls - with the help of a few moms and siblings - transformed a former grass-covered area by digging up lawn and weeds, discovered hundreds of worms, and put in some 80 (many bare-root) plants.  Starbucks on Windward provided coffee grounds by the pound to add organic material to the soil and loosen it up.   The rocks that were found during digging were used to build toad houses and shelter for lizards. Creek View's Garden Club will do occasional maintenance such as weeding or watering. The children are very excited about the project and none of them wanted to stop working on Monday. We just need some rain now!

Thursday Post: March 4, Comes in like and lion...

The March wind roars
Like a lion in the sky,
And makes us shiver
As he passes by.

When winds are soft,
And the days are warm and clear,
Just like a gentle lamb,
Then spring is here."

The Thursday Post for September 10

Thank you for your willingness to cooperate in our Green School Initiative. CVES has already saved significant time and money by reducing our paperwork production.  In this transitional time, you will occasionally find flyers sneaking into the Thursday folders due to the need for collecting signatures for  Early Release transportation, in-house field trips, volunteer sign up sheets for Book Fair and PTA committee positions. Please review these announcements and send in the completed forms. In time, we hope to automate as much of these tasks as possible and we thank you for your patience.
The Science Adventure Zone hosts a wide range of science labs which are aligned with the Georgia Professional Standards.  Each lab has been carefully researched and material prepared to fully engage and support students in the acquisition of knowledge. Grade 3 uses owl pellet dissection in order to develop an understanding for animal adaptations, habitats and the food web. If you ever have the chance to volunteer, don't miss out! You can fill in the science gaps from your own childhood! It's fun.
Mrs. Perez, the Curriculum Support Specialist looks on as a parent volunteer assists students with the dissection process.
