Student council drove in a caravan of cars driven by parents to the food pantry. They went to help stock the shelves with 13,000 plus items collected during the annual CVES food drive. Parents and teachers accompanied these dedicated students.
Thank you to everyone who donated, time, money and nonperishable goods. What a wonderful way to share with less fortunate families.

Academic Bowl CVES and Webb Bridge

CVES hosts Webb Bridge Middle School this morning in our Media Center for
the first fall event.  Here are some photos from our friendly academic competition with WBMS!

The Creek View Academic Bowl Team had a banner year in 2008-2009!  We placed 1st in Georgia in both of our Knowledge Master Open competitions, and were recognized twice by the Fulton County Board of Education.  We also did very well in the Math Olympiad and Thinking Cap Quiz Bowls. Practices have begun, and it look like we are going to have another fantastic year!  Please note that regular practices end at 3:30, and extended practices end at 4:30.
For more information visit Ms. Becker's Academic Bowl pages.

The Thursday Post for November 12

Dear Parents,
We hope to see our entire Creek View family at the Fall Festival/Carnival this Saturday.  The weather is going to cooperate, ensuring a wonderful outdoor-family-event. Please enjoy the fruits of our collective labors by visiting all of the classroom booths, and the many other exciting activities for children. The students are very excited about the prospect of seeing their friends and teachers on the weekend! Creek View is collecting food items for the North Fulton Community Charities. Please allow your student to bring canned fruits and vegetables, boxed meals, plastic containers of peanut butter and jellies, cereals, quart ziplock bags, and diapers.  Anything non-perishable is welcomed. Student Council members are in the rotunda daily to collect and store items.  Thanks for supporting this worthwhile cause.  The NFCC is serving about 125 families each day through the food bank. Please take the time to read the invitation to the Internet Safety program. This is an issue of concern to every parent and student in the digital age. We hope to see you at the parent session.

  • Idling costs you money
A popular misconception is that idling your car uses less gas than turning it off and restarting. The truth is, if you are going to be sitting more than 30 seconds, it is more fuel efficient to turn your engine off. Idling also causes more wear and tear on engine parts.

Please support Creek View’s No-Idling Zone and turn your car off while waiting to pick up your child(ren). Then we can all breathe easier. To learn more about air pollution, its effects and what you can do, visit CleanAirCampaign.org.

The Thursday Post for September 10

Thank you for your willingness to cooperate in our Green School Initiative. CVES has already saved significant time and money by reducing our paperwork production.  In this transitional time, you will occasionally find flyers sneaking into the Thursday folders due to the need for collecting signatures for  Early Release transportation, in-house field trips, volunteer sign up sheets for Book Fair and PTA committee positions. Please review these announcements and send in the completed forms. In time, we hope to automate as much of these tasks as possible and we thank you for your patience.
The Science Adventure Zone hosts a wide range of science labs which are aligned with the Georgia Professional Standards.  Each lab has been carefully researched and material prepared to fully engage and support students in the acquisition of knowledge. Grade 3 uses owl pellet dissection in order to develop an understanding for animal adaptations, habitats and the food web. If you ever have the chance to volunteer, don't miss out! You can fill in the science gaps from your own childhood! It's fun.

Families to Watch the Obama Message Together

      Dear Parents,
On September 8, President Barack Obama will host a special webcast directed to schoolchildren.
As you know, the Fulton County School System focuses on instruction and teaching the state's new curriculum, the Georgia Performance Standards, so that students can achieve - and exceed - their personal and educational goals. Daily instructional time is a precious resource; therefore, schools are under no obligation to watch the hour-long address, either through the webcast or on CSPAN.
Creek View ES will not be airing this broadcast at school.   Families have the option of watching the president's remarks with their children outside of the school day, as the speech is expected to be available on both the White House  and CSPAN  web sites after the broadcast.
      Sincerely,
      Mr. Matthew Rogers
      Principal

The Thursday Post for September 3

      Dear Parents,
We are so pleased that all of you who are able to receive email have elected to receive communications via the web.  This is going to be a tremendous savings for Creek View and you will not be inundated with papers. Today it may not appear that the plan is working!  You have only two email links to pdf files and 5 different colorful flyers in your student's folder.  Never fear, we are working out some kinks in this process.
Read this paragraph if you ever plan to create a flyer for distribution:
Essentially we all have to get used to the idea that any items submitted for distribution must be emailed to Mrs. Gerlich by Wednesday, approved for distribution by Admin. and then they can be uploaded and posted in your weekly Thursday Folder email announcement. With a little help, any document can be converted into a pdf file.  In fact if you use Google docs you don't even need to purchase Adobe Pdf Maker, so it's free. Other such services exist as well. In addition, hand written documents can be scanned as pdf files or embedded into documents and then turned into pdf files. Once the pdf has been approved, you would simply provide 100 copies that we could use for the handful of people who need them and as back up copies.

      IMPORTANT:
Fulton County District Web Message Just Release 1:28 PM
On September 8, President Barack Obama will host a special webcast directed to schoolchildren.

As you know, the Fulton County School System focuses on instruction and teaching the state’s new curriculum, the Georgia Performance Standards, so that students can achieve – and exceed – their personal and educational goals. In the event a school plans to show the broadcast, parents will be notified ahead of time as well as be provided an opportunity to opt out their students through the form below. Although suggested lesson plans have been shared, they will not be used since they are not a part of the required state curriculum. No child will be penalized if he or she does not participate in the broadcast.

Families also have the option of watching the president’s remarks with their children outside of the school day, as the speech is expected to be available on both the White House (www.whitehouse.gov) and CSPAN (www.c-span.org) web sites after the broadcast.
