Congratulations Geography Bee Winners!

On December 21, 2010 Creek View held its annual National Geographic Geography Bee. The Geography Bee is a national competition for 4th through 8th grade students. Winning students from the 4th and 5th grade classrooms competed in the school competition. The questions were tough and three students survived the first two rounds. The final winners were, 3rd place – Brian Nelson from Ms. O’Brien’s 5th grade class, 2nd place, Reed Perreiah from Mr. Chesher’s 4th grade class and 1st place, Sarah Medina from Ms. Becker’s 5th grade class.

Sarah will now take a paper test that will be submitted to the state competition and if her score is high enough she will be invited to compete in the Georgia bee. State winners travel to Washington D.C. to compete in the national bee hosted by Alex Trebec. The national winner earns a prize of $25,000. The bee is sponsored by Creek View’s media center. Congratulations to all of our classroom winners and to Sarah!

The Georgia Online Assessment for students in grades 2-5 to practice CRCT online is now available. The CRCT test will not be given in 2nd grade this year, however, we have provided practice tests for them as well. There are numerous tests created by the teachers in each grade level that students may practice. The website is http://www.georgiaoas.org/ and their username and password is their ten digit number beginning with 1100 or 2000. This number is located on a sticker in their agenda. Please contact Josette Perez at perez@fultonschools.org if you have difficulty logging on – pop up blockers must be turned off.

The Service Learning Committee is sponsoring our second annual “Toiletry Drive” for our friends at North Fulton Charities. Last year, we just asked for items and took whatever came in. This year, we thought we would take a more structured approach in hopes of a better participation level. Each grade level has been assigned one item. Boxes will be in front of the Media Center to collect by item/grade level. The following is the suggested list by grade level, but obviously, any items will be gladly accepted!
  • Kindergarten: Toothbrushes
  • 1st: Toothpaste
  • 2nd: Soap
  • 3rd: Shampoo and Conditioner
  • 4th: Mouthwash and dental floss
  • 5th: Deodorant

The Georgia Department of Education is interested to learn if parents find the inclusion of the Lexile useful.  To that end, a short survey consisting of five (5) questions has been developed.  Please take a moment to complete the survey.  As a parent of a Georgia public school student, your feedback is important.

Tickets will be available on the day of each feast.

Caring about others and giving to the needy are important lessons for children to learn. Children, however, tend to be caught up in their own worlds, with their own needs for toys and games and other material wants. Their immediate wants and needs and keeping up with their friends makes it difficult to impart a lesson to children regarding giving to others. The CVES PTA would like to offer you an opportunity for a teachable moment.  Please click here for more information about holiday giving:
