Fulton County requires a notarized affidavit of residency at the beginning of every school year. No carry over or extension policy exists. If your child does not have a current, valid affidavit of residency of Monday, August 15th, they will not be admitted to class until a parent provides the affidavit. We strongly encourage you to complete your residency affidavit prior to the first day of school; notaries will be on hand during Sneak Peek, August 11th, to assist you.

Per Board Policy JBC, "School Admissions," two documents indicating residence in the attendance area must be provided for all students. Click here to download an affidavit.

Appropriate records for verification of residency must include any two of the following:

Copy of home mortgage payment book
Current utility bill (gas, electric, or water)
Apartment lease showing name of legal guardian
Homeowner's insurance registration/card
Current paycheck stub
Current bank statement
Copy of sales contract for a home
Receipt to have utilities connected

Front office hours for the month of July are Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
CRCT scores and end of the year Speech Evaluations are still available for pick up during office hours.
Additionally, 5th grade graduates who failed to pick up their exit envelopes and students who need to pay fines or return library books for your records to be released, may come in during office hours.
School begins on August 15th! Enjoy the rest of your summer!

For all those who have waited anxiously for their students CRCT results, they are available now in the front office. Please come prepared with your identification and your child's homeroom teacher's name.

During June, you may pick up scores between 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

During July, you may pick up scores between 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Make sure your are sending postcards to Paisley from your summer vacation spots! We want to know where you've been and all the great adventures you're having over the break!

As if you really needed a reminder, the last day of school for students is TOMORROW! Your child should come to school empty-handed. No backpacks, lunch boxes, board games, books, etc., should be brought to school.
Lunches must be packed in paper bags with disposable utensils.
See the clinic to pick up any medications. Medications left after tomorrow will be discarded!

5TH GRADE POOL PARTY POST-PONED

A strong thunderstorm is forecast to move through the metro Atlanta area on Thursday during our 5th Grade Promotion Pool Party. This storm brings a significant chance of strong winds, hail, and lightning.

We have decided to move the Pool Party to our rain date on Friday, May 27th at the same time (5:30-8:00 pm). We realize that some students will not be able to attend the rain date, unfortunately we will not be able to issue refunds. We are sorry to postpone the party, but our students’ safety is our #1 concern.

• Please be aware that the ceremony will begin at 8:15 a.m.

• Parents will be allowed in-through the front door, please- at 7:45 to get seated.

• We ask that 5th grade students come to school on time (before 7:40 a.m.) so they may line up with their classes and not cause any delays.

• Due to space limitations, younger siblings may NOT be checked out to attend the 5th grade promotion Friday morning. Ms. Briggs and Ms. Kindregan will be broadcasting the ceremony via closed circuit to all classrooms that morning. Thank you for understanding.

Attention Small Business Owners

On Wednesday, May 4^th, the Creek View Academic Bowl Team participated in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl America Answers 5, 6, National Competition. Consisting of 100 questions, the Quiz Bowl challenged the team in a variety of topics. Answering 95 of the 100 questions correctly, the team scored 1208 points and placed 6^th out of 110 fifth grade teams, and 16^th out of the 223 total fifth and sixth grade teams. Congratulations to the team!

Music Matters after-school band and orchestra program will continue next year. Just like this year, instruction is available to students in third through fifth grades. Classes will begin in August. The monthly tuition fee will increase to $55 for one hour-long lesson each week. Parents may rent or purchase instruments from Music Matters or the vendor of their choice.

Kids and Canines at CVES!

Canine Assistants is a non-profit organization that trains and provides service dogs for children and adults who have physical disabilities or other special needs. Research has demonstrated that there is a definite connection between children and animals; therefore, we are capitalizing on this wonderful relationship to enhance reading development. The K-9 reading program gives opportunity for students and the K-9 program puppies to practice skills. Students practice reading skills and the dogs practice people skills. Our Creek View ESOL 3rd and 4th graders had been selected for this program and have been enjoying the reading dogs that come to our school on Wednesdays.

Dear Creek View Parents and Families:

Annually, the Fulton County School System evaluates its performance using a wide variety of measures, one of which is a parent survey. While we encourage regular communication from our community – and many of you may have provided feedback throughout the year – your feedback at this time is especially critical. Results from the survey will be used to develop improvement plans for the 2011-2012 school year, as well as be compared to past survey results to measure our progress.

The survey is designed to measure your perceptions across multiple categories, all focusing on the school (or schools) your children attend. You have the option of taking the survey online, and a link can be found on the district’s home page or you can use the link provided below. You also can complete a paper copy at your child’s school. The survey is open to all parents with children enrolled in the Fulton County School System and will be available through 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24.

Girls on the Run 2010-2011

CVES had 15 girls, their friends, and family "running buddies" complete a challenging, hilly 5K run along West Paces Ferry in Atlanta. Every Atlanta area GOTR club was represented; over 1500 runners in all! This was the culmination of all their hard work and training for the last semester. The GOTR mission is to "educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living."

The Creek View GOTR club performs a community service project at the end of each semester. This time the girls chose to send care packages to our troops overseas; they collected personal items and food to fill 9 boxes; and they hand-made card and letters to send to those soldiers to brighten their day.

As part of the Silent Auction at the Basket Raffle this past March, each of the third grade teachers offered their time for a kickball tournament with third grade students. The winners of the auction from each class invited a friend and headed out for a fun game of kickball against their teachers on Monday at the Windward Sports Park. Ms. Wade, softball extraordinaire, came out as the ringer for the teachers but Mrs. Stallard made her own running for MVP! It was a great afternoon and much fun was had by all!

School board names Robert Avossa as superintendent finalist

The Fulton County Board of Education announces that Robert Avossa is its finalist for the position of Fulton County School System superintendent.
“Robert Avossa’s educational philosophy has been shaped by his personal and professional experiences. He is a strong coalition builder who believes that every child can learn,” said Linda Schultz, Fulton County School Board president. “Robert has worked in systems that are as large or larger than Fulton and he knows how to include all stakeholders in the educational process. He has particular expertise leveraging data-driven accountability programs and demonstrated results in raising the bar and closing the gap. He will bring his vision and his skill to help us improve on what has been started in Fulton."

Avossa currently serves as Chief Strategy and Accountability Officer for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) in North Carolina. CMS is one of the largest systems in the country with more than 135,000 students. In this role, Avossa has led the district in driving key performance management initiatives. The accountability group managed district and state testing, conducted independent research on student and teacher performance, and developed a platform and formative assessments for the district’s 2014 strategic plan.

“I am honored at the prospect of joining the Fulton County School System,” Avossa said. “Fulton has a well-deserved reputation for excellence and education innovation. In particular, the school board has made student achievement its highest priority and I look forward to working with them as well as school leaders and the community in making this happen.”

Before assuming his current role in 2009, Avossa served as the area superintendent of the district’s South Learning Community and as Chief of Staff to the superintendent. He joined CMS in 2006 after more than a decade in Florida schools as a teacher and principal.

Avossa has a diversity of experience with key roles at the elementary, middle and high school levels. He has been a teacher in middle and high schools, principal of a large Title I elementary school, and the principal of a comprehensive high school with more than 3,250 students. His work in these positions earned Avossa the designation as Young Educator of the Year in 2003. In addition to his educational leadership, he was active with the community and was a member of the Leadership Charlotte Class of 2008.

Avossa holds a bachelor’s degree in exceptional education and behavior disorders as well as a master’s degree in special education, both from the University of South Florida. He also holds a specialist’s degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University. He is a doctoral candidate at Wingate University with an expected graduation date of summer 2011.

Avossa and his wife, Kellee, have two school-aged children.

Special meet-and-greet opportunities with Avossa are being planned. The meetings are part of a 14-day public comment period held before the school board can formally tender the position to Avossa. During these forums, Avossa will share his educational philosophies and personal background as well as engage in a Q&A session.

The draft plan MS and HS maps for tomorrow’s Bethany Bend redistricting meeting will be posted on our departmental website today at 2:30pm. Typically, these maps are posted the same day of the meeting; however, due to the shortened timeframe caused by spring break, we were able to analyze the comments and produce the draft proposals a day earlier. 2011 "Young Lungs at Work" Comic Strip Art Competition

Entries are due by April 15th!

On Saturday, April 16, your student and your family have the chance to attend FAME (Fulton Arts & Music Expo). Throughout the day, awarding-winning musicians will provide clinics on various instruments and elements of the music business. A “Super Panel” of music professionals will discuss careers in the music industry. In addition, you and your family can hear jazz, rap, a fiddle team, orchestral music and rock and roll by a combination of student and professional bands. The day will end with a concert by the renowned Rialto Jazztet and rock-and-roll band the Dirt Poets. Tickets for the noon to 6p festival, including the clinics, are only $5. CVES Parent Student Handbook

Parents, please review page 15 of the Parent Student Handbook: CARPOOL Because so many of our students live nearby, Creek View Elementary maintains a busy carpool schedule. If you are new to the Alpharetta area, you will quickly come to find that we have traffic that can sometimes be very overwhelming. Please help us keep our students safe and your child’s morning commute stress-free by allowing them to ride the school bus. If you do choose to carpool your children, we ask that you adhere to our school guidelines. Children may ONLY be dropped off and picked up at the front of the school following the designated traffic pattern. Please do not attempt to bypass cars in front of you because you may be in a hurry. The orange cones are placed strategically to maximize the safety of our students, their parents, and our staff. Please do not move or knock them over. Drivers should form a single line in front of the school where they will stop for children to enter or exit the car. Students should exit/enter cars from the curbside only. Students should have all of their belongings together in order to make a smooth transition between the car and the entrance to the school building. Children may not be dropped off in the front parking lot, since they are not permitted to cross through the parking lot without an adult accompanying them. For obvious reasons, children may also not be dropped off in the school bus loading area. If your child should need assistance getting out of the car in the morning, or if your child needs to unload items, please park and walk him/her across. A limited number of staff members are available in the building to assist our students each morning. We kindly ask that parents refrain from walking their children to their classrooms. Using the staff parking lot is not an option for dropping off students. This practice not only causes a major back-up for entering and departing buses and arriving staff members, but also poses an unsafe situation for students.

“Do a Good Deed Every Day!"

Spring is in bloom! Last Monday, the Junior Girl Scout's had a chance to get their hands dirty while they updated the Butterfly Garden near the tool shed. Among their “dirty work”, the girls pulled weeds and planted Violas (annuals), Parsley (herb), Monardas (perennials), Lavendar (perennials), Phlox (perennials) and Dianthus (perennials). Soon the garden will be in full bloom and attracting butterflies for all to enjoy. The Girl Scouts encourage you to take a look on your next trip to the play yard.

It is too late for students to turn in their class picture payment envelope as these had to be given to the photographer on the day of the photo shoot. When class pictures come in (in about 3 weeks), IF there are extras, homeroom teachers will collect the payment envelope ($13) and give the student a picture.

An invitation from Mr. Yackley and the AHS Chorus Department:

The Kent State University Men’s Chorus will present a concert Monday, March 21, at 7 p.m. in the Alpharetta High School Auditorium. The Alpharetta High School Chorus will also be featured. The KSU Men’s Chorus is directed by Dr. Ben Ayling, who conducted the Georgia All-State Chorus last year. I hope that you will join us for an evening of great music! The concert is free but a good-will offering will be taken up to help defray the costs of travel.

Elections for two parent representative positions on Creek View's LSAC will be held on May 17, 6:25 PM, near the Creek View Cafeteria, (prior to the Talent Show). The term for each of these Parent Representative Positions will be from June 1, 2011 through May 31, 2013. Exceptional Children's Party

It’s that time of year again. Spring is coming and the dress code has been forgotten! Our teachers and staff want your children to be comfortable in their school attire. The elementary school day is chock full of academically enriching activities. There are also many opportunities for exercise and playing outside. All students will receive 15 minutes of recess daily, which will entail outside playtime. Students should wear sneakers daily. They are mandatory for P.E. class and are the safest shoe for wearing on the playground and playpad.
Please follow guidelines set forth in your Student/Parent Handbook when selecting clothing and shoes for your child.

Summer Drama Camps at Creek View

The Alpharetta HS Foundation, works to place AHS on a national stage in the areas of academics, the arts, athletics, and service to community. To sustain those efforts, the Foundation is planning The Black and Silver Celebration, to be held March 19^th at the Alpharetta Marriott. Foundation Hall of Fame members will be inducted, and there will be live and silent auctions, food, entertainment, and dancing.

Sack Childhood Obesity- The Sports & Wellness Camp 2011

Former Creek View student Tiger Greene’s battle with childhood obesity has been featured on the Dr. Oz show, CNN News, and 11Alive News. At twelve-years old, Tiger made healthy lifestyle changes and started the non-profit organization Team Tiger to support other kids and families in the fight against childhood obesity.

Team Tiger and Buffalo Bills Defensive end Marcus Stroud will hold a Sports and Wellness Camp at the Georgia Dome on Saturday, April 16. Children ages 7 to 15 who fall into national criteria for childhood obesity are invited to complete an essay for a spot at the camp. Children and their families will be given resources and the support needed to succeed in this battle.

News from the Cafeteria: Starting in February, Fulton County's Nutritional Department will be launching a new program called ,”Farm to School”. Each month, Fulton County schools will feature a fresh vegetable from the Coastal Georgia Small Farmers Cooperative. This small group of Georgia farmers has a desire to grow and deliver fresh, quality, Georgia grown produce while maintaining their small farm heritage. The CGSFC farmers grow collard greens, turnip greens, field peas, yellow squash, and Vidalia onions. This month on Thursday, February 17th, we will be featuring fresh grown collard greens.

Do you know what the 3 R’s are? Reduce, reuse, and recycle! We are currently collecting gently used, clean towels to donate to Southern Hope Humane Society. They will REUSE these towels as bedding for animals at their shelter. Any size of towel can be donated. Please place your donated towels into the blue recycling bins located in the rotunda area. Donations will be accepted from February 21^st thru March 4^th.

You may use the coupons to purchase regular priced tickets for select performances for $10, up to six tickets per coupon. Performance are being held at Phillips Arena from February 17th through 21st and at the Gwinnett Center February 24th - 27th. One coupon per family, please!

Coins for Canine Assistants News - In 4 days, the children, families, and staff at Creek View raised $3,001.44 and every penny raised went straight to Canine Assistants. Someone somewhere will be able to have a service dog and companion thanks to the CVES family.

A huge thank you to Publix, who counted all the coins and bills for us (waiving the counting fee). Also, thank you to, former CVES front office secretary, Colleen Waddle who coordinated this project for our school.
And now, the winners: Drum roll please….

In third place, with $644.00 is 2nd grade!! Wowza.
In second place, with $678.18 is 3rd grade!! Wowza, Wowza.
And the top grade level, with $693.45 is 5th grade!!!!

The real winners, of course, are the dogs and people who will benefit from this wonderful gift we are giving. Remember, we are still collecting stories and artwork for Paisley’s book. Please have everything submitted no later than Friday, Feb. 11th so the book can go into production.

Six Flags Read to Succeed student reading logs are coming home today! Students can receive a free ticket to Six Flags for six hours of reading! Reading logs must be turned in by March 1st, 2011.

We are very excited to let you know we have purchased ixl math to help our students practice their math skills. This is an online math site available to every student at Creek View. Simply go to www.ixl.com. Their username is their first and last name followed by 268, i.e. johnsmith268. Their password is the student id # beginning with 1100 or 2000 number in their agenda or take home folder. Once they are logged in, they may choose various grade levels and skills. In addition to making math practice exciting, IXL is designed to help your child learn at their own pace. The website is adaptive and will adjust to your child's demonstrated ability level. The site also records all of your child's results, so you can monitor your child's progress anytime by clicking on the Reports tab. FIRST in Georgia for the third year in a row!

The tradition of academic excellence continued last week as Creek View’s Academic Bowl team competed in the 44th annual 5th and 6th Grade Winter Knowledge Masters Open.

Our twenty 5th graders scored a total of 609 points which placed them FIRST in Georgia and 31st out of 206 5th grade teams.

FINALLY:

Redistricting meetings set for new North Fulton high school

Three community meetings are set for February 23, March 16, and April 13 to address the redistricting process for a new high school in north Fulton County. Each will be held at Alpharetta High School, located at 3595 Webb Bridge Road in Alpharetta, from 7-9 p.m.

The high school will be constructed at the corner of Bethany Bend and Cogburn Road and is scheduled to open in August 2012. Existing attendance zones of other North Fulton high schools will be modified to create the new school’s attendance zones. Parents, staff, and community members are invited to give input on how the new boundary lines will be drawn. Fulton County Schools uses a process that encourages public discussion before developing a proposal. This allows the community to have maximum input in how the proposed attendance lines are created.

The Fulton County Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the new attendance zones in June 2011. Changes in attendance zones will go into effect when the new school opens in August 2012.

Make Up Day Announcement!

Due to the unprecedented school weather closures this year, the Fulton County School System will hold two instructional make-up days for students and teaching staff.

State board of education rules allow “forgiveness” for up to four weather days during the school year, which means that students do not have to make up those days. However, six days of school already have been canceled in 2010-11 – five in January due to snow and ice, and one in December due to icy roads – which leaves two days for students to make up.

The two make-up days for students will be Friday, March 11, which was set aside as a teacher workday, and Friday, April 22, which originally was a day off for both students and teachers.

Congratulations Geography Bee Winners!

On December 21, 2010 Creek View held its annual National Geographic Geography Bee. The Geography Bee is a national competition for 4th through 8th grade students. Winning students from the 4th and 5th grade classrooms competed in the school competition. The questions were tough and three students survived the first two rounds. The final winners were, 3rd place – Brian Nelson from Ms. O’Brien’s 5th grade class, 2nd place, Reed Perreiah from Mr. Chesher’s 4th grade class and 1st place, Sarah Medina from Ms. Becker’s 5th grade class.

Sarah will now take a paper test that will be submitted to the state competition and if her score is high enough she will be invited to compete in the Georgia bee. State winners travel to Washington D.C. to compete in the national bee hosted by Alex Trebec. The national winner earns a prize of $25,000. The bee is sponsored by Creek View’s media center. Congratulations to all of our classroom winners and to Sarah!

Creek View TAG students help fight cancer!

The Kindergarten through 2nd grade T.A.G. class would like to thank everyone for supporting our candy making business. The students made over 2,000 pieces of candy in one day! After combining their profits and donations, they were able to donate $700 to the Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation!

The Falcon's are coming to CVES!

Congratulations to Creek View Elementary for being selected as the 2010 NFL Play 60 Super School!!!!!

On Tuesday, December 7th their will be a private assembly and presentation of a $10K grant award that will be used for student fitness and health, as well as PE equipment here at Creek View! December 7th will also be Falcons Spirit Day-wear all your favorite Falcons gear or red and black for the assembly!

Please be aware that there will be NO parent volunteers, peer facilitators, readers, or lunch visitors on December 7th-NO EXCEPTIONS!

Just 14 days until holiday break and instruction is still going on during this time. Please make every attempt to avoid tardies and early check outs, if possible. Maintaining attendance and normal routines assists in preserving the learning environment.

The Service Learning Committee is sponsoring our second annual “Toiletry Drive” for our friends at North Fulton Charities. Last year, we just asked for items and took whatever came in. This year, we thought we would take a more structured approach in hopes of a better participation level. Each grade level has been assigned one item. Boxes will be in front of the Media Center to collect by item/grade level. The following is the suggested list by grade level, but obviously, any items will be gladly accepted!

Their immediate wants and needs and keeping up with their friends makes it difficult to impart a lesson to children regarding giving to others. Warm Town Hall Reception for CVES Grade 3

Students in 3rd grade are studying 'The Roots of Democracy'. As the school buses carried them from Fire Station to Public Safety and on to the Municipal Court and finally to the Town Hall in downtown Alpharetta, students learned first hand how the local government operates. Several children noticed the new Corinthian-style columns being erected on the bank at the corner of Old Milton and Haynes Bridge. Identifying Greek architecture is also a 3rd grade standard! One of the highlights from the town hall meeting was the opportunity for students to sit in council seats and to press the voting buttons which register on a board for the audience to view. The large group topped off this wonderful adventure with a picnic at Wills Park. On the return home, students remarked about the 911 center, seeing a real tazer, Mr. Rogers in handcuffs, the judge pounding his gavel, the smoke in the smoke house, the comprehensive living quarters in the fire house and much more. Please be advised that your tax dollars really are hard at work. We are grateful to the many city of Alpharetta employees who helped make this trip an enjoyable, educational experience for our students. What a wonderful town we live in!

A great big thank you very much to the fifth grade parents for this month's Potluck Teacher Appreciation Luncheon!

Did you know 15 girls from Creek View are running a 5K race with their families on November 14th? These dedicated young ladies have been training after school two days a week since the beginning of the semester! On November 14th, they will put their practice into purpose and compete in the New Balance Girls on the Run Fall 5K. The race is open to everyone, so please consider coming out to run, walk, or stroll in support of the Creek View Girls on the Run Club! Click here for details: Girls on the Run Fall 5K

The Creek View family loves their dogs and we are very lucky to have Paisley as part of that family. However, it is our policy that family pets are not permitted on campus without prior approval by administration. We appreciate your cooperation with this issue. The Environmental and Recycling Committee will be collecting new and gently used sweaters, jackets, and coats of all sizes to help others stay warm this winter. The Coat Drive starts November 1st and continues until November 12th. The committee will have blue containers in the foyer in front of the cafeteria to collect the coats.

Creek View families and faculty had two very enjoyable nights at Roasters Restaurant located on Windward Parkway and Highway 9. Roasters is a new business partner for our school and made us feel very welcome. A check for a portion of the proceeds was presented to Creek View on Wednesday in the amount of $557.28!! The funds will be used for materials to improve instruction. Roasters will sponsor another Creek View in the near future. Raise Funds for Music Education through the Fulton Arts and Music Expo

Strike up the band! The Fulton County School System is putting on a show-stopping event to raise funds for music education! On November 6, the first-ever Fulton Arts & Music Expo – or FAME – will take place at North Springs Charter High School. Award-winning marching bands, orchestras, jazz bands and choruses from all across Fulton will perform to large crowds, and professional Atlanta musicians will lead skills clinics for students and perform mini-concerts. Kid-friendly activities will entertain the young ones while music lovers will experience sights and sounds that delight the ears.

FAME is sponsored by the Fulton Education Foundation, the Fulton County School System and Music Matters to raise funds for student scholarships for the elementary band/orchestra after-school program as well as other music education initiatives. Tickets are on pre-sale for $10 before the event (children 5 and under are free) and are $15 the day of the event. Rain or shine, this event promises to be a day of fun for the whole family. New for all Fulton County schools this year is a web-based program called eSchoolPlus-this replaces Parent Connect. Parents can access the Parent Portal on the Fulton County School’s website at Fulton County Schools. You are invited to come by the front office from 8:30 to 10:00 am or 12:30 to 1:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday to pick up your login information. You must bring in a photo ID to receive your information.

Tomorrow is Falcons Friday! The CVES Health and Wellness Committee invite you to wear your red and black or Falcons gear in support of Play60: encouraging students to be active for 60 minutes a day. The day will be filled with activities intergrating football and physical activity. Ms. Briggs and Ms. Kindregan have even set aside books related to football and physical activity to support the cause. Way to go Media Center! Please keep in mind our new school hours are 7:40 to 2:20. That means your student must be IN CLASS at 7:40. You may walk your students to class until Friday, August 27th; please prepare them to walk on their own starting Monday, August 30th!
We will open the cafeteria for parents to eat with their students on Tuesday, September 7th!

Sneak Peek Success!

Giggles, whispers and hugs ensued as throngs of eager returning students gathered to discover who would be their new teachers this year. Meanwhile, classroom teachers made the final touches to their rooms and adjusted name tags as changes were happening up until the last minute with every new registration. Moments later, the students, parents and siblings started the annual ritual of meeting and greeting and for some parents this happened in as many as four different classrooms. Even the Middle School and some High School students rediscovered their elementary school home in search of former favorite teachers. Reconnecting and extending connections, it’s all about building positive relationships in support of education. The word on the street is that Sneak Peek was a great success.

These are the days we remember, filled with anticipation. This year your child will grow and discover learning in new ways. They will establish lasting friendships and wonderful memories. From the minute they enter Creek View and are greeted by the warmth of our front office staff, throughout the day as they interact with classroom and specials teachers and other caring Creek View Staff members and our ever-present and invaluable PTA members, your child will feel like a part of a caring community of learners. Thank you for actively supporting your child’s education by supporting Creek View. We were thrilled to welcome you back to school year 2010-2011. Best of luck getting your kids to sleep Sunday night! Just know they will be well taken care of by us come Monday morning.

Slimed for a Good Cause!

Today students raised the target heart rates of their teachers by sliming them! All in good fun, the teacher agreed in advance to be slimed if their students met a fund-raising goal for Jump Rope for Heart, a program implemented by the PE department of Creek View. The whole student body will be able to relive the excitement in a Cheetah Channel special edition tomorrow morning, according to the rumor mill! If you see any green-headed teachers, you will know immediately that they were the ones slimed in this event. Apparently the food coloring lives on for several days!

Thank you for all of the heart felt contributions to this annual opportunity for giving.

Yearbook Distribution Information

PTA has begun distribution of yearbooks. There are very few yearbooks left and 5th graders will be the first group to purchase one on Monday, May 17th. It will be first come, first serve at 7:30am outside of the cafeteria. The price per book is $35.

On Tuesday, May 18th, other grade levels may purchase any remaining books. Parents may submit an order form with a check to the front office staff. If no books are remaining, your payment will be returned.

Raider Football for Rising Middle Schoolers

he Alpharetta Raider Youth Football Camp is being held June 14-June 17, 2010, at Alpharetta High School Raider Stadium. The camp is divided into two sessions. The camp for rising 3rd – 5th graders will be held 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The camp for rising 6th – 8th graders will be held 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Campers will learn basic football fundamentals, position-specific skills, basic conditioning principles and Raider Pride! There will be punt, pass and kick competitions and non-contact mini football games. Alpharetta Raider Coaches including the Head Coach Jason Dukes will conduct the camp. The cost for camp is $200.00. Lady Raider Basketball - Camp of Champs

The girl's basketball camp will be held June 14-16 from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm at Alpharetta High School main gym. All girls that are rising 4th through 9th graders are welcome to attend. School House Rock Visits CVES!

Our amazing show choir-students performed for an assembly of 3-5 graders this morning. They sang songs from the beloved tradition of School House Rock. How many of you remember their grammar thanks to songs like, "Conjunction Junction"? These students shared their wealth of knowledge of the curriculum through song. I doubt they will ever forget how to "Unpack Adjectives".

Each year, our wonderful Curriculum Support Teacher, Mrs. Josette Perez coordinates the annual Write and Read All Day event for Creek View. This year, one of the special surprise visitors was former Baseball and Football player turned author, Brian O'Neal Jordan who played for the Braves and Cardinals. Many parents visited classroom to read and tell stories. Parents from as far away as Indiana made a surprise visit to teacher Ms. Crissy Wade. Hello Families,

Tomorrow is WRAD Day. This means we Write and Read All Day. We will be having special visitors in the building throughout the day. Students may wear PJs in accordance with the Creek View rules of appropriate attire. They should bring gym shoes for recess and PE. Individual teachers will indicate the items each child may bring to school. It should not exceed what they can carry in their backpacks.

IMPORTANT: Cafeteria balances must be paid. Please make payment immediately if you have an outstanding balance.

Mr. Hodge's 4th grade class once again sets a precedent unreachable by the other classes at Creek View! LOL! Thank you to all the hard work by Coach Clements and team plus the numerous parent volunteers and spectators who helped make the last two days a wonderful events for the children! Have a super weekend, and get ready for WRAD DAY next Friday.

Creating a CVES Foundation: Exploratory Committee Now Forming

Dear Parents,

We all have heard the news about the mandatory budget cuts being made to Creek View Elementary. There is no better time than NOW to get involved and help make a difference. Many public schools in our local area have formed foundations. These are not-for-profit organizations that allow the school to raise much needed capital funds that go beyond the scope of PTA and can be sustained over years. What are some of those expenditures that would benefit Creek View? Consider the following ideas:

Financial support and growth of our arts programs
Continued financial support and expansion of our technology resources
Financial support for staff development
Financial support for outdoor enhancements

Creek View Elementary is in the preliminary stages of researching this idea. We are looking for more ideas, and of course helping hands.

Salutations CVES families,

Thank you for your support of our annual Screen on the Green Event. We had over 500 people in attendance and thank teacher Steve Johnson for spearheading this effort along with his many staff supporters. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, was a big hit for adults and kids alike!

Yesterday we held our annual Kindergarten Safari. This event gives parents and future Kindergartners the opportunity to explore Creek View and to preview the classroom experience.

Today is a spectacular day for the K-2 Field Day and tomorrow promises to be just a beautiful for our 3-5 teams. Thanks you for the donations of snacks and drinks as well as coming out to support your child's classroom. Please read the latest PTA Newsletter and note that the May Calendar and Menu are also available. There is still room to sign your child up for our one-of-a-kind drama camp this summer; an experience that will boost your child's confidence and enjoyment of public speaking.

Happy 40th Earth Day!

We hope to see you all at the Screen on the Green this Friday evening at 7:30! Check out all the the flyers posted below including the bi-monthly Cheetah Chat.

Due to massive budget cuts, band and orchestra will no longer be offered in FC schools next year for 4th and 5th grade students. On May 4 at 7PM you are invited to the final Band, Orchestra and Show Choir Concert at Alpharetta HS. The teacher-leaders will be honored and acknowledged by the PTA for their dedication to this invaluable program. If you wish to make a voluntary contribution for the gift presentation, please print and send in this flyer.

Greetings Creek View Families:

As the year winds down, there are many people who deserve applause for contributing to a banner year. Among the many areas of noteworthy, selfless volunteerism, we can look to all the parents who prepare and present in our Science Adventure Zone. You folks are wonderful!

Stay on top of the numerous activities planned for the next month. Read the PTA Newsletter for complete details of dates and times. Screen on the Green will mark the end of CRCT next Friday, April 23. Come celebrate!

CRCT Update

Testing continues Friday with the Math section. Tuesday and Wednesday of next week complete the series with Science and Social Studies. Thank you for making sure your child gets plenty of sleep, a healthy breakfast and arrives in the classroom before the late bell rings. Make ups will take place next week as well.

Enrollment Survey to Complete and Return by April 22

Each student will receive a blue enrollment survey to complete and return. On the back of the enrollment survey is a student information form. It represents the current information maintained by our Data Clerk. It is very important that parents review and update the information. Make changes, then sign and date. It is critical we are able to reach you and each of your alternate numbers in case of emergency. Return the forms on or before noon, April 22. Thank you.

Extra Curricular Sports

The next Jr. Raider Football Registration will be on April 19th from 6p - 8p., in the AHS Auxiliary Gym. This will also be Equipment Issue. For information and to make payment please visit the website at www.alpharettaraiders.com. We look forward to seeing you there.

Happy Spring Break to All!

The Creek View Garden Club and the CVES Brownie Troop 3801started a butterfly garden just outside of the Outdoor Classroom! The Girl Scouts provided all kinds of supplies. The tilled the soil and discovered it was rich with worms. They built toad homes to encourage toads. It's an exciting work in progress.

CRCT testing will begin begin on April 15. It runs 5 days, Wednesday-Friday the first week and Tuesday and Wednesday of the 2nd week. Students should get plenty of rest and have a healthy breakfast. They have a 10 minute break for snack during testing. Please make sure your child arrives on time to unpack, relax and get settled in as testing will start promptly at 8AM.

More about the Butterfly Garden....

Girl Scout Troop #3801 took on the Pink and Purple Butterfly Garden project with the long-term goal to have the garden certified as a National Wildlife Habitat. Slowly but surely we will be adding features to meet all the criteria for the certification. The Troop paid for plants out of their Girl Scout cookies - selling fund and the Greenway Service Unit promised to match the amount.

Some of the plants were donated by parents, other materials were donations from Home Depot on Windward and Lowe's at John's Creek. The troop's 20 girls - with the help of a few moms and siblings - transformed a former grass-covered area by digging up lawn and weeds, discovered hundreds of worms, and put in some 80 (many bare-root) plants. Starbucks on Windward provided coffee grounds by the pound to add organic material to the soil and loosen it up. The rocks that were found during digging were used to build toad houses and shelter for lizards. Creek View's Garden Club will do occasional maintenance such as weeding or watering. The children are very excited about the project and none of them wanted to stop working on Monday. We just need some rain now!

Teacher and Employee of the Year Celebration 2010

This afternoon, teachers, students and PTA parents gathered with families of the honorees, teacher of the year, Michael Vorick and Employee of the Year Karen McNamara. Each one of them exemplifies the character traits we try to instill in our students. They contribute to Creek View in ways that touch the lives of many community members who love and respect them both personally and professionally.

Hats off to Michael Vorick and Karen McNamara for jobs exceptionally well done!

The Local School Advisory Council (LSAC) Webb Bridge Middle
This 7-member council established to improve academic achievement, solve difficult educational problems, and share ideas for school improvement. The WBMS LSAC meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m. in the media center. If you are interested in serving on the 2010-2011 LSAC, please send a letter of interest to Ms. Fogartie at WBMS by April 30. Explain why you would like to be a member of the LSAC. The election will take place on May 6^th prior to the Webb Bridge chorus concert.
